Across Africa, millions of children go to school every day but too many leave without the skills, confidence or support they need to thrive. When foundations are weak everything built on top of them is fragile.
We work with governments, educators and communities across Africa to strengthen the foundations of learning; literacy, numeracy, life skills and values — so that children, especially those furthest behind, can grow, learn and flourish.
The Challenge
In classrooms across Africa, children sit quietly at their desks but many are already falling behind.
A child may reach the end of primary school unable to read a simple sentence. Another may struggle with basic numbers. Confidence fades early. Participation drops. Transitions fail. Futures narrow.
This is not because children lack ability or ambition. It is because systems were not designed to meet them where they are.
Children living in poverty.
Children in marginalised communities.
Learners with disabilities.
Children learning in languages they do not speak at home.
When foundational skills are missed early, the effects compound year after year. What begins as a learning gap becomes an equity crisis.
Education is a human right and systems must work for those they have left furthest behind.
How We Drive Change
Lasting change does not come from isolated projects. It comes from strengthening the conditions that make learning possible in classrooms, across systems and throughout the wider education ecosystem.
We serve as a backbone organisation, working alongside those closest to children to shift how learning is defined, supported and sustained.
Stronger Foundations for Learning and Life
When teaching improves, children who once stayed silent begin to participate.
We strengthen literacy, numeracy, life skills and values so children build the confidence and capability to succeed both in school and beyond. Our focus is deliberate: learners who face the greatest barriers must be centred, not accommodated last.
Stronger Education Systems
Only public education systems can reach every child.
We partner with governments to reform education from within, aligning policy, curriculum, assessment and teacher development so foundational skills are embedded at scale. Not dependent on short-term programmes.
Stronger Ecosystems for Change
We convene educators, families, researchers, civil society, youth and the private sector to co-create solutions, share evidence and build collective momentum. Enabling change to endure long after individual initiatives end.
